This stakeholder event provides an opportunity for discussion on a long-term EU strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and building a modern, clean economy.In March 2018, EU leaders asked the European Commission to present, within 12 months, “a proposal for a Strategy for long-term EU greenhouse gas emissions reduction in accordance with the Paris Agreement”. This followed a similar request from the European Parliament.In preparation for this proposal for a mid-century low carbon emissions strategy, the Commission will carry out a public consultation in the summer of 2018, seeking input from citizens and stakeholders on the EU’s long-term strategy.In this context, the Commission is organising a 2-day stakeholder event in Brussels on 10-11 July for up to 1000 participants, bringing together a broad range of stakeholders from business, research and civil society.
